Postal No. 1
Postal No. 1
The Postal Backpack No. 1 is modeled after the 19th-century U.S. postal bags that hung on cranes next to railroads waiting to be grabbed by moving trains.
To make the Postal Backpack No. 1, we use 2.2mm water-resistant vegetable-tanned Italian leather. It took years to find the perfect hides in terms of density, strength, and softness. Now we import the leather ourselves and enjoy the assurance that the backpacks will last and mature for generations to come. Snow, rain, and sun will deepen the color of the bag. Frequent use will soften the hide over time.
The closure is solid brass and comes from a small foundry in England where the hardware is hand-tooled and manufactured in small quantities.
The Postal Backpack No. 1 is lightweight, weighing about 2.5 pounds. With the top folded and latched, the dimensions are 17" X 12" X 3.75." The bag is equipped with an interior divider (fits a 13" Macbook Pro), a large zippered pocket (10" X 12"), and a convenient brass key-hook. A 17" laptop will fit easily into the main compartment. A small zippered pocket on the back panel allows security and easy access to your wallet or phone (fits an iPhone 6+).
Colors shown in order: walnut, black, dark tan, and natural.
Our bags are designed, hand-cut, and hand-crafted at our studio in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. We make the Postal Backpack No. 1 to order; please allow a lead-time of 10-14 days.
